Aine Elessedil is a minor character in The Shannara Chronicles, based on the character of the same name in The Elfstones of Shannara. He was the oldest son of the Elven King Eventine Elessedil and the heir to the throne. He was killed by the Gnome assassin Slanter when Slanter entered the palace in Arborlon in an attempt to kill Eventine. Besides his two younger brothers Arion and Ander and his aunt Pyria, he had a daughter named Amberle.

Biography

Early Life

Not much is known about Aine's early life, except that as a Prince of the Elves he would have been raised in the palace at Arborlon.

Death

Prior to the events of the Shannara Chronicles, Aine was killed in combat by Slanter in front of Eventine, his brothers, and his daughter Amberle. His death had deep repercussions for the Elessedil family: Amberle lost her only parent, Arion became the heir to the throne, and Ander turned to alcohol to cope with his guilt.

Due to an idea planted in her mind by her father just before he died, Amberle decided to become the first woman to run the Gauntlet and become a member of the Chosen.

Changes made for the TV Adaptation

  • Aine is killed in combat by Slanter during an attempt by Slanter to assassinate Eventine. In The Elfstones of Shannara, Aine is killed in a hunting accident.
  • Repeated references are made to Aine having been the firstborn son and the heir to Eventine's throne, making Arion the middle son and Ander the youngest son. In Elfstones, Arion is the oldest and the heir apparent, Ander is the middle son, and Aine is the youngest.
  • Aine is portrayed as being Eventine's favorite son and a model warrior and Crown Prince; in Elfstones it is Arion who is portrayed as Eventine's favorite and a dashing, handsome athlete and fighter, while Aine is the beloved baby brother.

Aine Elessedil is a deceased character referenced in The Elfstones of Shannara. He was the youngest son of the Elven King Eventine Elessedil and the brother of Arion and Ander. He died eleven years prior to the events in of Elfstones in a hunting accident and is mentioned only briefly. Before his death he had married and had a daughter, Amberle Elessedil.

Death and Legacy

Aine was very close to his brother Arion, but when he died Amberle went to Ander for support and comfort, arousing jealousy in Arion and beginning a conflict between the two surviving brothers. When Amberle is brought back to the Elven city of Arborlon by the Druid Allanon, Ander welcomes her back whereas Arion tells the Druid to send her away. Ander also ends up supporting Aine's daughter on her quest to restore the Ellcrys, while Arion does not.

Aine's daughter Amberle ultimately completes her quest by becoming the new Ellcrys and restoring the Forbidding, sealing away the Demons once more and saving the Elves.
