Amantar is a minor character in The Elfstones of Shannara. He is a Maturen of the Kershalt Territory Rock Trolls who leads an army of 1,500 Trolls to stand with the Elves and their King, Eventine Elessedil, in the fight against the Demons.
The Elves are surprised by the Trolls' appearance in Arborlon, but as Amantar explains to Eventine, the Rock Trolls have already had some encounters with the Demons, experiencing both injuries and deaths. He speaks of the need for Trolls and Elves to put aside their differences to fight this common enemy, and he kneels before the Elven King and pledges his services.
By pledging the services of the Trolls to Eventine, Amantar effectively puts an end to centuries of conflict between Trolls and Elves. Later, his army stands alongside the Elves, Dwarves, and the Free Corps in the final battles against the Demons. After the Forbidding is restored by Amberle Elessedil and the Demons are banished once more, Amantar departs Arborlon with pride.
