The Free Corps were a controversial regiment of the Border Legion that was in operation during the time of the Druid Allanon. They were considered the Legion's shock unit and their men were considered expendable.
The soldiers came from different lands, Races, histories, and lives, but they all came for the same reason: to escape their past and begin again. They were thieves, killers, cheats, soldiers from other armies, men of low blood and high, men with honor and men without, some searching, some fleeing, and some drifting. No one was ever asked about his past—his life began the day he joined.
Serving in the Free Corps was a matter of pride for its men, who gained an identity that set them apart from any other soldier in the Four Lands. Its soldiers were the first into battle, and the first to die, with their casualty rate by far the highest in the Legion. It was considered a given that Free Corps soldiers would die in battle.
The War of the ForbiddingEdit
A command of six hundred Free Corps soldiers was sent to assist the Elves in their battle against the Demons when the Forbidding was about to fall. They were led by Stee Jans, who was so able a military leader that Ander Elessedil, King of the Elves, gave him the command of the combined armies when the Elven commander Kael Pindanon fell in battle. After the war was finished, Ander even went so far as to offer Stee Jans the position of Commander of the Elven Army, but Stee Jans refused and returned to the Borderlands.
